CORN.

Happy Sunday, and happy belated birthday miss Bangs!

7/27/2012

Hey fellow Bangs & Blush'ers! It's a lovely time for us because we're coming up to celebrating nearly 2 years of Shake Rattle & Roll, and over 2 years of myself, Brittney Townson and my partner in crime Lindsay Darling, being Bangs & Blush! So we're gonna be giving you for the next few weeks on this very blog a whole lotta' nostalgia. A boat-load of it. And here to kick it off is the lovely Miss Darling herself, offering us an incredible feature that nearly had this B&B'er in tears. Can you feel the love tonight?

It’s funny to think that I started DJing in the first place. I’m a pretty private person who hates being the center of attention so it’s strange that this is the path I took but once upon a time someone handed me a pair of headphones, walked away and it completely changed the course of my life. Bangs & Blush is two today and where it all began can be summed up in one word: serendipity.

I met Brittney one night at Strangelove when I was Djing. She was this cute sixties looking chick tearing up the dance floor, chain smoking and partying her ass off even though there were only four people in the room. Obviously, upon initial meeting I thought she was rad… come on who wouldn’t? Eventually she started turning up with packs of friends at two other nights I was throwing and we got to know each other. There’s always been something about Brittney that I admire which is she’s no bullshit, what you see is what you get and I’m the same way, so naturally we became friends.

I could sit here and say launching Bangs & Blush was calculated, and well thought out but it was more like this:

Lindsay: “Brittney, I need a change. I need a DJ partner. Do you want to DJ?”
Brittney: “Yes!”
Lindsay: “Great!”

Up until this point I had always worked with guys so meeting Brit and starting something “all girl” was kind of a dream for me. We dreamed up everything, the name and what we wanted to do in once Facebook conversation. That same day we launched Bangs  & Blush.

We’ve worked at so many venues it’s hard to count, the greatest one of all being Clintons. The bottom line has always been to throw insane nights where people can just leave their shit at the door. There’s nothing like watching a ton of people loose their minds dancing because you know they’re going to wake up happy. Bangs & Blush isn’t something I could have even dreamed up in my wildest dreams.  It means more to me then anything else I’ve ever done in my life.

I think the best thing to come out of two-years of Bangs & Blush is the friendship that I have with Brittney. If I’ve learned anything it’s the partnerships are tricky, either you grown into them or you grow out of them. Luckily, I ended up with Brit and gained one of the best pals a girl could ask for.

Sometimes I feel like the luckiest girl in the whole world to have Bangs & Blush! So excuse the nostalgia, there are so many more years to come and I can’t wait. See you on the dance-floor.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RINGO!

7/03/2012

Since the Beatles popped up onto the world music scene in the 1960's, most people will answer you "The Beatles" if you ask them who the most influential, popular and inspirational band ever is. But who the inspired them? Today on the Bangs & Blush Blog we're looking into who the boys of the Beatles; George, Paul, Ringo and John, listened to before and during their iconic careers and what artists and fellow bands pushed them into the direction of their transcending sound!
When Lennon, McCartney and Harrison all met as young boys with dreams and aspirations of being rock stars, they were all listening to the same four key artists: Bo Diddley, Elvis Presley, Little Richard and Chuck Berry. It shows; look at how many of their first few albums included covers by these artists or at least songs written in their same exact famous formula! As time went on, psychedelia was becoming popular, drug use and spiritual enlightenment were the new ways to expand musical creativity and the Beatles were starting to experiment more with their music. When the Beach Boys album Pet Sounds came out, McCartney credited it as a creative awakening and still credits it as one of his favorite albums of all time!
Such singer-song writers as Harry Nilsson, Bob Dylan, Donovan (whom they took to India with them to visit Ravi Shankar)  and even Frank Zappa all became good friends and artistic inspirations for the Beatle boys. If you're a Beatles fan and you haven't checked out any of these artists before, give a listen and be amazed as the musical pieces to the Beatles puzzle will all be put in place!
