.

Thanks to Hair Romance for the hot tips on how to create a sweet 60s ponytail!

It’s important to start with a good base. Freshly washed hair that has been blowdried for volume as described above. If your hair is wavy or curly, second day hair will also hold this style well.

1-2 . Tease at the crown. Create that volume and shape by teasing your hair at the crown of your head. Add a little hairspray if you need extra hold.
3 . Make a low ponytail. Gather all your hair into a low ponytail, but don’t pull the hair tightly at the top so you keep as much volume and shape in the crown area.
4.  Loosen the top section for more volume. Gently pull at the top of your ponytail to loosen the hair from the top section. It’s all about keeping volume in the crown and creating that 1960s shape.
5.  Smooth the top with a comb. Using either a bristle brush or comb, smooth over the top section to create a rounder shape.
6-7.  Hide your hair elastic with a piece of hair. Take a small piece of hair from the base of your ponytail and wrap it around your hair elastic to cover it. Pin the end underneath with a bobby pin.
8.  You’re done! A quick spritz of hairspray will keep the style in place, though I like it a little messy just like Brigitte Bardot.

You may have noticed our newest door girl Lisa whipping her hair back and forth,  dancing around and throwing her own private door party at Beatlemania and Shake, Rattle & Roll. This girl is tall, gorgeous, hilarious and up for absolutely anything. Us Bangs & Blushers love Lisa and we think you will too.

Tell us about yourself.
Tall, optimistic, thirsty.

What's do you like about Beatlemania and Shake, Rattle & Roll?
At the beginning of the nights the crowd always comes in a little shy, might of heard about us from a friend and they aren’t to sure what to expect. Then out of no where you look onto the dance floor and people are losing their shit, dancing on tables, taking off their shirts, conga lines! … Bangs and Blush knows how to throw a wild night and I’m proud to be apart of it!

You like to party and dance around while working the door. Where did you get your sweet moves?
My Mum does this really sweet move where she points her finger in the air and goes “whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooo!” It’s all genetics.

What's your favorite 60s song to shake to?
Winter: Tears of a clown – Smokey Robinson and The Miracles
Summer: Dancing In the Street – Martha and the Vandals

What do you think makes for a great night?
A brand new outfit, Appleton’s and a total lack of self respect.

BANGS & BLUSH ARE TWO!

That's right, babies! We're celebrating our second year together as Bangs & Blush! Make sure to come out and party with us extra hard this Saturday at Shake Rattle & Roll!

This fine, foxy lady you see before you goes by the name Tahra Dactyl and she's been a Bangs & Blush regular for a long time now! She can always be found on a Shake Rattle & Roll/Fuck It dance floor tearing it up with her fiery hair and retro-chic outfits! And so we thought; who better to help us  celebrate Fuck It's 1st Birthday on the Bangs & Blush Blog than with a certain lady who's been to nearly all of them! Ladies and gentlemen, here's your "EIGHT SONGS I KNOW ALL THE DANCE MOVES TO" with Miss TAHRA DACTYL!

8. WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN - THE BANGLES

My two favourite things, The Bangles and Egypt, collide with this massive hit from the massive 80's! Not only are you song catchy as hell, but you walk so fucking cool and now I can too! It's like, dance-learning. Yay Egypt!

7. Y.M.C.A. - THE VILLAGE PEOPLE

Who doesn't love a good spance (spelling-dance). Super fun at sweaty Bangs & Blush parties, and it's educational! LOOK MA, I CAN SPELL WITH MY ARMS!

6. BIRD DANCE/CHA CHA SLIDE
BIRD DANCE:

CHA CHA SLIDE:

The dreaded wedding dances! Come on, you know you loooove to get down with Grandpa Harold to the bird dance. It combines all the best things: wing flapping, booty shaking and clap clap, clap, clap. as for the cha cha slide,. it's like...a dance that brings all the danciest and undanciest of humans together. ONE HOP THIS TIME! Who could fuck that one up?! Not even I!

5. THE KETCHUP SONG - LAS KETCHUP

Remember that time when the Ketchup Song came on at the high school dance and you were the only one who was really pumped and started doing all the moves? And all the students left the dance floor except you? Just me? Oh.

4. MACARENA - LOS DEL RIO

This is the kind of song that can change your life. I mean, one minute your find yourself standing awkwardly at the edge of the dance crowd, the next, you're in the middle of a macarena dance battle. And if you don't fuck it up, you might just beat me. JUSTKIDDING, you won't. Most people would consider the Macarena to be hell on earth, but for me, it's my time to be in the spotlight. To be THE superstar master of the ultimate dance song ever! It's my favourite 4 minutes in life.
3. ANY 90'S/EARLY 2000'S POP SONG

Though it's been more than ten years since our 90's boy bands and popstars ruled the earth, I can still whip out every dance move to basically any BSB, 'Nsync or Britney song. My only form of exercise in high school was trying to mimic all the sexy moves so that one day, J.C. Chasez would fall madly in love with me because I impressed him with my gift of dance. (I'm still available, JC!)

2. TIME WARP - ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW

There is nothing more in this world that excites me than the Time Warp. Cxcept baguettes. And Bangs & Blush.

1. STOP - SPICE GIRLS

When this song came out, my friends and I dressed as the Spice Girls (I was Sporty, who would've thought?!) for our gym class project: create an original dance for a popular (at the time) song. But in our 'original' version, we... borrowed....the Spice Girls actual moves from the epic chorus. We were graded a C, for CHEATING, but in our minds it was a C for COOL.

Bangs & Blush love Tahra! See you this weekend for a B&B DOUBLE SHOT: FUCK IT 1st BIRTHDAY/SHAKE RATTLE & ROLL!

6/06/2012

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEVI STUBBS!
"Baby I Need Your Loving", "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)", "It's the Same Old Song", "Reach Out I'll Be There", "Standing in the Shadows of Love", "Bernadette"... all songs sung by the late, great Levi "Stubbs" Stubbles; lead singer of The Four Tops. What an incredible man, with an incredible career as an incredible lead singer of an incredible band who gaves us some fucking incredible songs. Happy birthday, Stubbs!

It's almost finally here - Bangs & Blush's FUCK IT 1st Year Anniversary Party! Jeeze, since when did a year roll by so damn fast!? Lindsay and I remember quite vividly our very first Fuck It; it was completely a fluke party idea that we rolled with one evening just over a year ago. And now, FUCK IT has become a creature of it's own; for the second Friday of every month, guilty-pleasure loving dance-floor junkies just like us come out to celebrate an evening of undeniable cheese. We can't wait to party with all of you, so make sure you head to Clinton's this Friday night for one of the most ridiculously exciting dance parties in Toronto!

Just Fuck It.
